From Raw Material to Finished Clock
From Black Forest linden wood, a master's hand, and patience comes a clock built to outlast generations – follow it on its journey.
Black Forest Craftsmanship
A genuine Anton Schneider clock is never made on an assembly line. It comes together in many hands - step by step, with patience, experience and the attention to detail that has defined our house since 1848. Follow a clock on its journey from raw blank to its first cuckoo call.
01
We choose only the best
Every clock begins with an idea - inspired by the history and nature of the Black Forest. Only once the idea is set does the selection of the right components begin: case, movement, bellows, figures.
We work exclusively with specialists from the region - and personally inspect every single part before it is allowed into our workshop. Only what meets our standards becomes part of an Anton Schneider clock.
02
Everything hangs on the right wire
Inside every cuckoo clock, millimetres decide everything: fine wires connect the movement, the cuckoo, the bellows and the figures. If one connection sits too tight or too loose, the whole sequence falls out of step.
Our clockmakers know every wire, every connection and every possible source of error - and set up each clock so the call, sound and movement mesh perfectly.
03
Movement meets case - a clock is born
Now the pieces that belong together finally come together: the tested and regulated movement is fitted into the case. On mechanical clocks, the bellows and pipes are added, giving the cuckoo its voice.
Models with a music box also receive their melody at this stage - along with the stage on which the figures will later turn in time with the music.
04
The clock comes to life
Now every clock gets its face. On the chalet models, the hand-painted wooden figures are mounted until the scene comes alive: the woodcutter, the dancers, the mill wheel.
On the carved clocks, the master-crafted carvings are finely finished and fitted - leaf by leaf, feather by feather. No two pieces are ever quite alike.
05
The journey begins
Before a clock leaves our manufactory, it has to prove what it can do: 1-day movements run for at least 24 hours on trial, 8-day movements for a full eight days.
Only after a final, thorough check of accuracy, call and sound is the clock carefully packed - and begins its journey to your home. From our hands into yours.
