Cuckoo clocks from the Black Forest are robust, long-lived timepieces. Wipe the case occasionally with a dry, soft cloth. The movement should be cleaned and oiled by a specialist workshop every 5 years. Keep the clock away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations to protect the natural wood.

On the Card Players Clock, the Black Forest way of life comes alive. Linger for just a moment and the scene begins to tell its story: below, on the terrace of the farmhouse, a convivial group sits together over a game of cards – just as it has been known in the taverns of the Black Forest for generations. And while the next trick is still being fought over below, the dancing couples up on the gallery are already turning to the beat of the music.
Every detail of this clock is crafted by hand: the fine shingles of the roof, the flower-decked balconies, the mill wheel on the gable wall, the lovingly painted figures. Together they create a warm, nostalgic atmosphere full of tradition and cosiness – a little piece of the Black Forest to bring home. A clock that awakens memories, tells stories and fills any room with genuine Black Forest charm.
The three card players
At the table on the terrace sit three card players, deeply absorbed in their game. You can almost hear them debating the next move – until the full hour strikes. Then the round springs to life: with a flourish, the three slap their cards down on the table, as if the decisive trump had just been played.
This little performance repeats every hour on the hour – and never fails to raise a smile. It is one of those moments in which a clock becomes a living piece of everyday Black Forest culture.
Dancing couples on the gallery
Above the scene, on the small gallery beneath the gable, four dancers in traditional Black Forest costume turn on the hour. They dance to the sounds of a genuine mechanical music box – with no electronics at all, driven solely by the power of the clockwork.
The special touch: the melody changes. A different tune plays on each full hour, so the little dance is never quite the same. Hour after hour, the clock brings a piece of music and movement into your home.
The bell
As soon as the figures begin to move, the clock's little bell starts to chime as well. Its bright tone mingles with the melody of the music box and the call of the cuckoo – just as the farmyard bell once rang in the end of the working day and called everyone together.
The result, on every full hour, is a small concert of bell, music and cuckoo call that brings the whole scene to life.
The beer drinkers
On the other side of the terrace, two beer drinkers have made themselves comfortable. In perfect calm they sit together, raise their steins and toast one another – an emblem of the conviviality and easy-going spirit for which the Black Forest is so well known.
Every gesture, every fold of clothing, every facial expression is lovingly worked out – small works of art that give the scene its very own character.
The mechanical 8-day movement
Inside the Card Players Clock works a mechanical 8-day movement – the pinnacle of cuckoo clock movements. Wound just once, the clock runs for a full week: it drives the pendulum, the cuckoo call, the music box and all the moving figures, entirely without battery or electronics.
This design, with its pendulum and the characteristic pinecone weights, has its roots in the 18th-century Black Forest, where the clockmaking of the farmhouses grew into a world-famous craft tradition. To this day, the principle continues almost unchanged: the slowly descending weights supply the energy, the pendulum sets the beat – clockmaking artistry in its purest form.
Winding the clock is simple: once a week, the weights are pulled back up on their chains – a small ritual that has been part of living with a genuine Black Forest clock for generations.
