Listen to the cuckoo

Original recording from our Manufactory in Gütenbach.

VdS seal, original Black Forest cuckoo clock

Original Black Forest cuckoo clock, certified by the Verein die Schwarzwalduhr e. V. (VdS), the Black Forest Clock Association. Your guarantee of genuine craftsmanship from the Black Forest.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Cuckoo clocks from the Black Forest are robust, long-lived timepieces. Wipe the case occasionally with a dry, soft cloth. The movement should be cleaned and oiled by a specialist workshop every 5 years. Keep the clock away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations to protect the natural wood.

SHIPPING & RETURNS

We ship every clock carefully packed and fully insured with DHL, usually within 3 to 5 working days. Delivery is free within Germany, across the entire EU and to the United States. For deliveries to the United States all import duties are included in the price as well, there is nothing to pay on delivery. For all other countries the shipping cost is shown during checkout and any customs duties are paid by the recipient. If you are not completely satisfied with your clock, you may return it within 14 days free of charge. A short message to info@schneider-clocks.com is all it takes.

A piece of Bavaria on your wall

Blue and white diamonds shine on the base, and the shutters carry them too. To the left of the copper brewing kettle two lads sit on a seesaw and raise their mugs, in the middle a dog watches the goings-on, and in the doorway stands the waitress in her dirndl with two beer mugs. On the right a guest in a green hat has settled in at the standing table with the barrel.

After the cuckoo call the dancing couples turn on the balcony, the music box plays Edelweiss and The Happy Wanderer, and beer drinkers, waitress and mill wheel come to life. A little bell hangs in the turret on the ridge, and the Biergarten sign under the roof.

A large chalet with plenty of room for stories, which needs a sturdy wall of its own.

The mechanical 8-day movement

Inside works a mechanical 8-day movement. Wound once, the clock runs for a full week and drives everything at the same time: the pendulum, the cuckoo call, the music box and the moving figures. Three pine cone weights of 1,500 grams each supply the power, one for the time train, one for the cuckoo, one for the music.

The music needs no electronics: a pinned cylinder plucks the tuned teeth of the music box, powered solely by the weights. The automatic night shut-off keeps call and music silent overnight without stopping the clock. It is wound once a week by pulling the weights back up on their chains.

We do not yet have high-resolution detail and room photographs of this clock. We will add them as soon as possible and then present this page with the same care as those of our other clocks.
